Basic PA System Setup (2 × Yamaha DBR10 + Yamaha MG10XU)
⚙️ Equipment
- 1 × Yamaha MG10XU mixer
- 2 × Yamaha DBR10 powered speakers
- 2 × XLR cables
🔌 Before You Begin
- Keep the mixer and both speakers powered OFF before starting
- Set the mixer’s STEREO OUT fader to the lowest position (0)
- Set the CH 2 GAIN knob on each DBR10 speaker to -∞ (fully counter-clockwise)
🔗 Step 1: Connect the Cables
- Run an XLR cable from the mixer’s STEREO OUT (main output) to Channel 2 on the first DBR10 speaker
- Run a second XLR cable from the mixer’s STEREO OUT to Channel 2 on the second DBR10 speaker
🟢 Step 2: Power On Sequence
- Switch on the mixer first, with STEREO OUT still set to 0
- Switch on each DBR10 speaker
- On each speaker, slowly bring the Channel 2 gain up to 0 dB
- Finally, bring the mixer’s STEREO OUT fader up to 0 dB
⚠️ Always power on the mixer before the speakers, and always raise the mixer’s output last. This avoids sending a power-on pop or surge through the speakers.
🔴 Step 3: Power Off / Disconnect Sequence
- Lower the mixer’s STEREO OUT fader to its lowest position (0)
- On each DBR10 speaker, turn the Channel 2 gain down to -∞
- Switch off each DBR10 speaker
- Switch off the mixer last
🔁 Final Check
- ✅ STEREO OUT lowered before touching any speaker controls
- ✅ Both speaker channel 2 gains at -∞ before power off
- ✅ Speakers powered off before the mixer
- ✅ Mixer is the first device on and the last device off
💡 Pro Tips
- Always power gear on in this order: mixer → speakers → raise levels
- Always power gear off in reverse: lower levels → speakers → mixer
- Bringing levels up/down gradually protects your speakers from pops and sudden volume spikes
